When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my business didn’t get a memo. It didn’t pause. Clients still called. Work still needed doing. So I kept going, from hospital beds and waiting rooms, through recovery weeks and days where energy was thin and perspective was sharp.
I don’t sugar-coat it. It’s my raw, sometimes darkly humorous account of what shifted when my identity was shaken, and what actually kept the business steady when I thought everything depended on me. It’s not a hero story. It’s a real one. And it often leaves business owners thinking about their foundations long after the room goes quiet, especially those who’ve never asked what would happen if they disappeared for a while.

A steady, honest talk delivered without drama or motivational theatrics. I speak plainly, with humour where it belongs, about what happens when serious illness collides with business ownership and identity.
The room tends to go quiet in the right places. People laugh unexpectedly. There’s recognition. Discomfort, sometimes. Reflection, definitely.
This is not a medical presentation and not a fundraiser pitch. It’s a real business story told properly. Expect perspective, substance, and a few moments that stay with people longer than they expect.
I’m happy to allow time for Q&A, and I always stay afterwards to continue the conversation. Some of the most valuable discussions happen once the formal part is over.
